Reports

--VBS 2006. It was a great time for both us and the kids. We had a team of 11 volunteers including a young woman from the US—Jana Wilson. The format was a bit loose this time—small groups were formed by age of the kids and they spent more time together on activities. The team dynamic was healthy and during the open discussions every afternoon, debriefing the day, we could see how much the volunteer youth workers have grown through the years. For the first time our children and the children of Yavor took a proactive role in the ministry. They were in the home merely as “ our kids,” but with a clear conscience that they are serving God and the orphans. They took part in a little puppet skit (please see pics). We also had a special show at the closing dinner the 4th day of the VBS.

--Teresa’s Welsh Experience. Teresa and Noah flew to London, then were picked up by a couple (Jen and Steve) and driven to Llanelli, Wales. Teresa participated in a women’s conference held at  Antioch church, which is active with us in mission work in Bulgaria. When I met Tes and Noah at the airport, to my surprise, she had red highlights in her hair! Teresa came back excited and ready to share with the women’s group in Vidin about the conference and her experience in Llanelli. We are hoping to find the time in August to visit Vidin.

--Ministry trip around the nation. Yavor and myself (Viktor) went on our, now regular, four-day trip around the nation. We met with youth worker teams (you can see their faces again here) we trained in March and June – the idea was to assist them enter a new home and establish a relationship with the administration, or participate in a ministry event in the orphanage where they are already serving. We traveled to five cities and met with people. Our first stop—Silistra—was especially successful. Besides preaching at the local church, our time with the team there was very good. We went to an orphan home 30 miles from the town of Silstra and established a contact with the director. She appeared to be a very reasonable and open lady. After a brief presentation of our work, she said that she would welcome regular visits from Gjulche and Svetlio, the Silstra team members. Thus, with the Silistra team God opened a door as a direct result of our training, prayer and encouragement for the start of this ministry in the church there. Some of our other meetings had a different ring to them. We had to encourage, rebuke and strengthen some youth workers who had doubts, struggles or misunderstandings. In Plovdiv we attended one ministry event of one of the two Plovdiv teams. Yavor led the music and we had good time with the kids and the team leader afterwards. We believe that God is starting the roots of a movement of Christians who will selflessly and boldly serve Him among the orphaned and abandoned youth. We are glad to be a part of what God is starting to do in Bulgaria.

Prayer points

We were told that we need to sign a contract in order to continue working in the orphan home of Novo Selo, although we have worked fine so far with oral agreements with the administration of the home. This was the request of the local office of the Ministry of Education which supervises this specific orphan home. This is a bureaucratic show of muscle but we are OK with it. Please pray that God will give us wisdom in drafting the written contract and that it will be His will in the process of signing it and approving it.

As usual, funds are on the edge. We’re lacking nothing but please pray that we will be able to meet the increased cost of living in Bulgaria and the new level of ministry to which God is calling us to. Or at least to have a new level of faith to not see finances as an obstacle to moving forward in God’s work.
